Tourism Figures Double for November 2022 – Compared with November 2021

Tourism is a huge benefactor for Montenegro’s economy responsible for around 25% of their entire GDP, so it will come as a major boost that tourism figures were nearly double in November this year (91,263 visitors) compared to November 2021 (45,665).

Tourism is a huge benefactor for Montenegro’s economy responsible for around 25% of their entire GDP, so it will come as a major boost that tourism figures were nearly double in November this year (91,263 visitors) compared to November 2021 (45,665).

Severely hit by the pandemic, the industry needed to recover quickly and there was major investment in promoting Montenegro internationally as a major tourist hotspot. Although numbers aren’t yet back to pre-pandemic levels, it’s certainly looking like the investment is beginning to pay off. In October, tourist numbers totalled 81,884 plus foreign tourists booked a total of 236,469 overnight stays – which is an increase of 139,633 on the previous year.

Seaside resorts like Kotor, Budva & Bar were by far the busiest in terms of tourist occupancy, closely followed by Podgorica & the mountainous regions. Most visitors came from Serbia, Bosnia, Russia & Ukraine, and despite the current War in Ukraine, Montenegro could still record a better Summer season than 2019.
