Montenegro's New Prime Minister Takes Office

In what’s been described as a monumental uplift for Montenegrin Politics and its open ambitions of EU Membership within the next few years, the new Prime Minister Milojko Spajić has finally taken office and chosen his cabinet.

It’s taken a good five months to get this point since the voting back in June, and the country is now looking forward to a strong and resolute government. Mr Spajić is the youngest Prime Minister in Europe but has an impressive background as he was a former finance minister and ex-Goldman Sachs banker.

Whilst also continuing with the last governments agenda of increased infrastructure and investment, Spajić’s foreign policies are focused on continued NATO membership, improving neighbourhood relationships and EU Support. As part of a recent four day trip to the Balkan area, the EU president Ursula von der Leyen met with both the Prime Minister and the President Jakov Milatović to discuss the on-going negotiations. She also announced a €6bn euro investment package for those wishing to gain full membership status.

In other positive news for the new Prime Minister, recent stats show that there was a 27% increase on tourists to Montenegro in September, with just over 161,000 arrivals. Tourists from Serbia accounted for 16% of the total figure whilst there was an 8.3% share from Germany and an 8.2% share from the UK. Most tourists decided to stay in the seaside towns and resorts.
