Montenegro’s Prime Minister Dritan Abazovic recently announced that in 2022 Montenegro achieved tourism revenues of €997m, just €50m short of the total figure for 2019, which is an amazing achievement for a country which is home to just 619,000 people. Dig a little deeper though, and the news will actually come as little surprise given that research carried out by Jersey Island Holidays, put Montenegro (and more specifically it’s Capital, Podgorica) as the most affordable European destination for a getaway.
Striving to reach it’s goal under the #montenegro365 campaign – which stands for ‘Tourism Every Day of the Year’ there’s been significant investment in trying to expand the Tourism Industry, and reach far out across the global spectrum, and it’s clearly working very well as the last quarter of 2022 saw the highest-ever quarterly figures achieved of €123m.
The average cost for a trip to Podgorica (which is perfect for exploring the rest of the country) is around £222 for a weekend trip, which includes flights, accommodation and meals. During your stay you can also easily get around by taxi, or you can hire a car, both of which are also very affordable. If possible, we would always recommend a car, as you can really take your time to enjoy the sights at your own pace and leisure.
An underrated jewel of the Mediterranean the experts over at ‘Wander-Lush Travel Blog’ also recommended visiting the likes of Perast and Kotor, which is by far one of the most beautiful places in Montenegro and is on the Unesco World Heritage List.
Montenegro broke away from Serbia & became independent in 2006, adopting the Euro as it’s main currency, plus, it’s also pushing hard for EU ascendancy – something which if it achieves, would really put it head & shoulders above the wider competition.
Also included within the Top Ten list by Jersey Island Holidays were Skopje, Warsaw, Sofia and Prague.
